It was supplied by Garage de l’ Athenee in Geneva to its first owner Mr Max Dubuis, also of Geneva and has had just two owners since, remaining in Switzerland from 1956 until 2025. In 2023 the car benefitted from various works, including a re-trim and the overhaul of various mechanical components. In more recent times Chassis No BC51LAF has undergone a detailed inspection and preparation process by our workshop team to bring the car up to showroom standard cosmetically speaking, to ensure it performs correctly, is reliable and is also a pleasure to drive. It comes complete with tools, original handbook, copy chassis cards, FIVA identity card and an original Bentley Continental brochure from the 1950s. An original left-hand drive S1 Continental Fastback by H.J.Mulliner is an exceptionally rare and highly coveted model, and we are delighted to be offering this superb example for sale at this time.
The success of the R Type Continental between 1952 and 1955 lead to the creation of the S1 Continental chassis, which was released in April of 1955. For the first time Bentley enthusiasts had a greater choice of coachwork designs to choose from with H.J.Mulliner and Park Ward responsible for bodying the majority of the S1 Continental chassis produced. One of the most popular designs was the fastback coachwork by H.J.Mulliner, built to Design No 7400. It was modified to fit the 3-inch longer S1 Continental chassis and in styling terms was adapted further from the R Type Continental with a raised front wing line and less bulbous rear wings with a higher line which were finished with stylish new swage lines.
