From the Vault-1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Drophead Coupe by Freestone & Webb

Our latest car from the Frank Dale vault comes in the form of Chassis No SED179 which was unveiled by Freestone & Webb at the 1957 London Motor Show. It was one of only two Silver Clouds produced to Design No 3243/C by Freestone & Webb, who also constructed a single Bentley in this style. This model was very much a last ditch attempt to save their failing business and sadly this final roll of the dice was not a successful one for Freestone & Webb, but they certainly signed off on a high note with this outlandish design. Being just a two seater it was nicknamed The Honeymoon Express and it featured a fully electric disappearing hood, way ahead of its time and not dissimilar to the mechanism on much more recent models like the Bentley Azure.

We owned and then sold this car back in the 1960’s when it was still fairly new (see the grainy photo from our sales archives) and it now resides across the pond in one of Americas premier collections, and rightfully so.

A car that often divides opinion but one that certainly demands your attention and one that I would still love to own.
