History : Bentley made a long awaited return to racing at Le Mans in 2001 following a yawning seventy one year sabbatical. And it was not a wasted journey with the new Bentley EXP Speed 8 finishing in a creditable third place. To celebrate this achievement and Bentleys return to competitive racing a special addition “Le Mans” version of the Arnage and Continental R were produced in limited numbers, with less than fifty Continental R examples commissioned. The new Le Mans variants were boosted to 420bhp providing superb acceleration and an exhilarating on road performance. The external cosmetic upgrades were substantial, which included flared wheel arches, green badges on the radiator, wheels and boot, 18 inch five spoke sports alloy wheels, sports bumper package, two sets of twin exhaust pipes, Le Mans wing badges and non-functioning cosmetic front wing vents, giving this already highly successful model a new identity. Inside the car the upgrades continued with drilled sports pedals, push button start, racing style gear knob finished in chrome and leather with integrated sports mode switch, sports seats with the Bentley logo stitched into the headrests, green dials, stacked central instrumentation cluster with chrome bezels and dark stained walnut veneer with Bentley badges embossed onto both waist rails and a Bentley Le Mans logo situated on the centre console. This particular example has covered just over 18,600 miles from new and has excellent service history carried out almost exclusively by Bentley main agents. It was serviced less than one hundred miles ago so is fully prepared for immediate use. The late production Continental R models are some of our favourite modern Bentley motor cars and this particular car should be seen in person to be truly appreciated as its condition and pedigree are correctly described as outstanding.
